A Zoo Birthday Party

On Valentines Day, one of the neighborhood children had their birthday party. The birthday girl is the youngest of all the kids. She turned one a week before her party. For the party, they had a zoo show, pony rides and a petting zoo.

Milo actually came and had no problem. During the zoo show, he did not want to touch any of the animals. He was excited to go on the pony ride. He waited in line and rode the pony all by himself. When people asked him what his favorite part of the party was, he said the pony ride. We are definitely making progress with him.

Holly on the other hand, was not so good during the show. She was excited to see the other neighbors and was squealing with delight during the show. I kept trying to keep her quiet, but when she wants to talk (or yell) she just lets it out. All she wanted to do was touch the animals.

Holly loves animals and wants to go see them all the time.

Holly did want to go on a pony ride. Although when it was our turn, she was hesitant initially, but then really enjoyed it.

There were quite a few animals there. A pig, goats, a camel, and many more animals in the zoo show. Here’s the evidence of the camel.

All in all, we had a great time at the party. It was a little cold that day, but it was fun.

Milo’s valentine party

Milo had a valentine party at school 2 Fridays ago. I went a little early and the home room mom was grateful because she needed the help. The kids made a craft, played Valentine Bingo, decorated a cupcake (which I helped with) and ate strawberries with cool whip and chocolate syrup.

I was helping the kids with the cupcakes so I only got a couple pictures of Milo. We had some frosting bags and sprinkles and one of the first kids squished the frosting out. I tried to let them try to do it themselves if they wanted. They seemed to enjoy themselves. Milo got some great valentines. He seemed to really enjoy Valentines day.

Here’s Milo smiling for me at his party. I realize it is blurry, but it is the only one I have.

I made sugar cookies for us to decorate. The kids seemed to enjoy eating the cookies. The frosting and cookies were excellent. Milo actually asked for one a few days ago. I just might be making some more here soon!

Table Runner

While my mom was here, I wanted to make a table runner for our TV console. It needed to be really big. We worked on it all week and managed to get it done. It wasn’t too hard, but it took a little bit of effort.

Here’s a picture of the finished product. It fits great and it looks really good with our furniture in the game/toy room.

I’m now going to attempt to make a different looking one for the top of our roll top desk. We’ll see how it goes and when I get to making it. It shouldn’t take too long after I get started.

The Round Rock

When my parents were here last week, I realized that we could easily go see The Round Rock on the way home from lunch one day. I had known it existed and hadn’t gone to see it yet. It was fun to go see it and learn about the history of Round Rock.

The Round Rock
The Round Rock. We took a picture of it from the other side. It is a big table-like rock.

The Round Rock was known for being the lowest point of Brushy Creek were you could easily cross. The Brushy Creek Post Office was established in a section of Thomas C. Oatts’ store on May 27, 1851. However in 1854, postal authorities asked Mr. Oatts to provide another name for the settlement (being that there was already a town in the State that called itself Brushy). Mr. Oatts decided to rename the town Round Rock in recognition of the large rock in the middle of Brushy Creek where he and Jacob Harrell spent much time sitting and fishing; thus on August 24, 1854, the name of Round Rock was officially given to the community.

The picture and some of the text came from the City of Round Rock’s website. You can read more about it at the link.

The last bug

Alright. I’ve been tagged a few times so I’ll work on doing them so that I’ll stop being tagged.

The last bug

Here are ten things that bug me (in no particular order):

1. When Milo gets something on his white shirt and thinks, “oh, Mom can just stain stuff it.” I have about 3 (or this week 4) white shirts to “stain stuff” each week.

2. People who are always late (more than about 10 minutes late) and they don’t call to tell me. That bugs me.

3. It bugs to me always be cleaning up after the kids.

4. When I’m outside with the kids playing for more than 2 hours.

5. When the Internet doesn’t work. I’m always at my computer…it’s a problem.

6. It bugs me when I don’t have time to do what I’d like to do…I guess that comes with having two children (one being a toddler).

7. When someone springs a project or event on me with no notice.

8. When Holly won’t go down for a nap when I put her down.

9. When people yell at me for no particular reason except to blow off some steam. I don’t like confrontation anyway, so this really bugs me.

10. When the power goes out (knock on wood) that’s only happened one time since being in Texas.

I now tag whoever wants to do it.
