Jill sent Milo a pink shirt at the beginning of the school year. Milo kept telling us that he’d wear his pink shirt when he got 10. Yesterday when we were talking to Jill, we had this brilliant idea. We’d all wear pink shirts (well except Scott because he doesn’t have a pink shirt). We even got the aunts in on it as well.
Sure enough, Milo wore his shirt. After school today, I asked him how things went at school. He said “no one said anything about my shirt, except wow that shirt is awesome.” I’ll have to admit I was afraid someone would say something mean to him about his pink shirt…luckily that didn’t happen.
Anyway, here are the pictures we took today our pink shirts.

This is Milo’s attempt at taking his own picture of his pink shirt.

Here’s Milo in his pink shirt.

Here’s Holly and Mom before Holly got dressed.

We were invited to a neighbor’s birthday party. The party was for a three year old girl. Her parents had gotten a 16ft dolphin slide. It was quite large and took up most of the backyard. The kids both enjoyed themselves. They had a small pool for little kids like Holly. Milo ran and got on the slide almost the minute that we arrived. He loved it so much that he only stopped going on it to eat a quick quarter sandwich and have some cake. He then promptly went back for more of the slide. While Milo was playing, Holly ate most of the rest of the time. Holly liked the little swimming pool. They both enjoyed themselves.

This is Milo going down the slide.

Holly liked playing in the little pool for a bit.

Milo’s aunts (Lisa & Jill) sent him a new shirt the other day. Usually when Milo gets a new shirt, it takes a lot of effort to get him to wear it. We’ve only been successful if Jill helps him decide it really is a great shirt.
I got it ready and asked him yesterday if he wanted to wear his new shirt. I had no problem getting him to wear it. We had no complaints about it. It is slightly too big and so his hands were inside his shirt all day and of course they got dirty.
We are thinking the reason he was so willing to wear this shirt is he knows what it says. We believe that he actually believes it. I asked him if anyone at school had said anything about his shirt. He told me that one of the other kindergarten teachers had asked about it and she read the words on his shirt.

Take note of the slightly dirty sleeves. I was going to take a picture of him wearing it, but I didn’t get it done. I’ll try to remember to do that next time he wears it.

Mercifully the weather decided to cool down here in Austin…the highs have been in the mid to low 80s and the lows have been in the 60s. More or less it feels like a little bit of heaven. Tonight we played outside for a while and didn’t turn into large balls of sweat…we had forgotten what that was like. It is amazing. We also received an little point and shoot camera today, so we took it outside with us for a spin. Below are the results. Unfortunately, we are told that the weather is the result of a cold front that will be leaving us soon
Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

Holly Beth up close and personal

Holly has discovered that she can climb this little ladder. It is amazing to watch her do it. She now prefers to climb the ladder instead of the slide.

Holly at the top of the ladder.

Holly waiting for Milo…

Holly then approaches the top of the slide and waits for Milo to “help” her down.

Down they go!

Milo was a bit too eager to get out and play. Eventually he realized he was still hungry and went back in the house for a breadstick.

Sliding with a breadstick.

Eventually, Mom came to check on us. She hadn’t quite finished dinner…

Eventually, a wrestling match broke out. Holly of course started it…

Milo quickly got into the act.

It quickly became an all out assault on Dad.

Eventually Dad cried for mercy.

Just before it was time to go in the house Milo noticed that a classmate was playing in his backyard by looking through a small hole in the fence. This is a photo of the conversation with the neighbors through the fence. Good stuff!

We thought some of you may be wondering how Hurricane Ike has affected us. Austin is around 165 miles from Houston (about 3 hours). Houston is around 50 miles inland from Galveston. Last week we thought the hurricane would hit us giving us stronger winds and some heavy rain.
Milo got out of school early on Friday so the school district could put some evacuees in some of the schools. A lot of people from Galveston and Houston came to Austin to evacuate. HEB (the grocery store) had many, many people there getting food and water. Some were scared that the hurricane would hit us and do more damage.
The Hurricane decided to turn and head east. We have since learned that if you are on the west side of the storm, you generally don’t get much rain. We didn’t get any rain over the weekend since we were on the west side of the storm. We did have a blustery day on Saturday, but nothing really different than any other storm. We did not lose our power. Everything is life as normal. All in all, not a very exciting story for our first experience with a hurricane in Texas…
