Milo and Holly started school the Tuesday after Labor Day.
Milo was not really excited because he could anticipate his homework. Two of his friends from the neighborhood are in his class. Milo is in 5th grade.
Holly was really excited to start school. She woke up early and was ready to go. Holly took her lunch and was pretty tired after school. It is her first year of all day school. She is in 1st grade.
Both kids had a great day! Amaia seemed okay with them being gone, but is very happy when they come home.
We decided to have Milo’s birthday party on Memorial Day. Everyone he invited was able to come. He had his friends from the neighborhood and one friend from school. When they arrived, we spent some time creating something with legos. Milo wrote the words Timbers (for the soccer team here in Portland). Holly even created something simple. It was interesting to see the differences in what the boys made.
Milo wanted cupcakes. They were chocolate cake with blue and orange frosting. After that, the boys ran wild for about 45 minutes. We sent them home with a couple more cupcakes. They seemed to have a lot of fun! Milo got some great gifts. Some legos, a few wii games, a few things to use outside and books.
Milo wanted carnitas for his birthday dinner, as well as a chocolate peanut butter cake. He had his first day of Webelo scouts. They made catapults and he was really excited about that.
I really enjoy doing these. It is fun to see if and how they change. Milo didn’t change his answers much, but Holly did.
I took pictures of them and their signatures. I also took voice memos of the interviews. If you want to listen please let me know.
We were talking to Milo about the year. He talked about this new school and informed us last night that since the mascot is a bull the teachers, etc. use horns to have the kids quiet down. At their old school they would use a quiet sign. Milo said that it is very common for the teachers to tell the kids “HORNS UP!” when they are walking down the hall to get them to be quiet. The funniest was that the bus driver even says “HORNS UP!” Holly said her teacher tells them “HORNS UP!” as well. We thought it was pretty funny!
We got our furniture and boxes moved in last week. We managed to get enough put away that we can park both cars in the garage! Yeah! We went to church for the first time yesterday. Things went well there, except Amaia is barely old enough to start attending Nursery. We’ll see how that transition works for her. The other kids did well.
Today was the first day at the new school. Milo was nervous about riding the bus. He’s never ridden a bus to school. There weren’t buses at his school in Texas and he walked to school in Hillsboro. I did convince him to ride the bus this morning. Holly was a happy girl and willing went to school. We have to wait for the bus to schedule a stop to get her, so as soon as that happens she’ll ride the bus to school too.
I’m sure they will have a great day!
Milo had his first day of school today. He was a little nervous, but had a great day! I think it will be a good year for him. He has quite a few people that he knows in his class.
Holly had an orientation today, but starts school on Friday! She goes in the afternoon to school.
I have been asking the kids these questions for a couple of years now. It is fun to do. Milo said he likes it too. I’m always amazed at how much changes and also the changes. I also recorded the questions so if anyone wants to hear what they said, please let me know.
Milo did ask me when Amaia would start doing it. I told him as soon as she can start answering my questions and I can understand her she will start doing it too.
I hope you enjoy it!
Milo has his birthday on Memorial Day this year. I can’t believe we have a 9 year old. Crazy! Milo had a fantastic birthday! Since it was a holiday we opened Milo’s presents in the morning.
We had some friends over on Sunday (the day before his birthday). After we had pizza we had Milo’s cake and ice cream.
A few of the noteworthy items he got were a few sets of legos, a water gun, a soccer jersey, some books, a book of Star Wars Mad Libs and some outdoor games.
We had a great day just hanging out. We had carnitas and beans for dinner. It was a fantastic dinner. Milo requested a chocolate cake with raspberries. It had a raspberry filling with frosting and raspberries.
He had a great day. Milo is a great kid. The day after his birthday we took cupcakes into his class at school.
A year ago or so, I found a paper that Moms could use to interview their children. It has questions that you ask them. I decided it would be fun to do. I did it last March and September and then again last week (March 15, 2012). It has evolved a little bit, but it is really fun to do. It is interesting to see how they change and how that happens. It is funny to see how some of it relates to what is happening that day or the day before. I decided to take a picture of both Milo and Holly on the day we did it. I also took a picture of their signatures. I hope you enjoy seeing some of it too!
I have been wondering how the kids are looking compared to each other.
Originally, I thought that Amaia looked like Holly. In looking at a post comparing Holly and Milo, I realized that they all look a lot a like. It will be fun to see what Amaia looks like as she grows up.
What do you think? Who does Amaia look like?
Milo as a baby
Holly as a baby (around 2 months)
Amaia as a baby (around 2 months)
Amaia as a baby (around 3 months)
